De Spaanse gitariste Susanna Prieto en de Griekse gitarist Alexis Muzurakis debuteerden in 1999 als duo op het Internationaal Gitaarfestival in Volos (Griekenland). Sindsdien hebben ze opgetreden in prestigieuze zalen als de Berlin Philharmonie, Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, de Tchaikovsky Hall in Moskou, het Megaron in Athene en de Merkin Concert Hall in New York. Ze worden veel gevraagd voor concerten en masterclasses op internationale gitaarfestivals en hooggewaardeerde concertseries in Europa en Amerika.

Ze hebben vele prijzen gewonnen, zowel individueel als samen. In 1999 wonnen ze als duo de eerste prijs op de Internationale Gitaarduo Competitie in Frechen (Duitsland). Het jaar daarop wonnen ze de prestigieuze Gitaarduo Competitie in Montelimar (Frankrijk) en de 21e Internationale Gitarduo Competitie ‘Mauro Giuliani’ in Italië. In 2001 veroverden ze de
Duo/Ensemble prijs op de Kamermuziek Competitie in Leipzig (Duitsland) en hetzelfde jaar
waren ze de winnaars van de Internationale Gitaarduo Competitie in Parijs (Frankrijk). In
2003 namen ze hun eerste CD op na het winnen van de opnameprijs Citta de Verona op de
Internationaal Kamermuziek Competitie ‘Gaetano Zinetti’ (Italië). In 2005 deden ze met
succes auditie voor de Yehudi Menuhin Society Live Music Now.

Het Duo Melis heeft samengewerkt met de Berliner Symphoniker, de Neubrandenburger
Philharmonie, de Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, het Radio Orkest van Boekarest en het
Nationaal Orkest van Thessaloniki onder leiding van Leo Brouwer. Hun brede repertoire gaat
van de barok tot de muziek van A.Piazzolla, A.Ginastera, Leo Brouwer en omvat tevens
concertos voor twee gitaren en orkest van Rodrigo, Castelnuovo-Tedesco en Vivaldi evenals
het nieuw gecomponeerde concerto van Marek Pasieczny dat is opgedragen aan Duo Melis.

Recente optredens in Noord-Amerika omvatten de Jaarlijkse Conventie van de Guitar
Foundation of Americas, recitals in Chicago, St.Louis, Austin, Scranton, College Station,
Houston, Brownsville en Detroit. Ze hebben twee keer op het podium gestaan bij zowel de
OMNI Concerts in San Francisco en het Cleveland Classical Guitar Weekend. Ze waren
eregast op het Bethlehem Guitar Festival in Pennsylvania. In Europa hebben ze recitals
gegeven in Italië, Griekenland, Duitsland, Polen, Rusland, Spanje, Roemenië, Nederland,
Tjechië, Oostenrijk, Noorwegen, Zweden en Frankrijk. Na hun optreden op de GFA
Convention in 2008 schreef Mark Switzer in Soundboard:

‘Het optreden van Duo Melis was een van mijn favorieten tijdens de conferentie; hun spel van
technisch volmaakt, muzikaal overtuigend en demonstreerde fantastisch samenspel.’
Susanna en Alexis studeerden in respectievelijk Spanje en Griekenland. Ze vervolgden hun
postgraduate opleiding als duo en solist op het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, het
‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ Conservatorium in Leipzig (Duitsland) en het ‘Hans Eisler’
Conservatorium in Berlijn (Duitsland).

Sinds 2006 doceren Alexis en Susanna op het Nationaal Conservatorium van Straatsburg in
Frankrijk.

The following year they won the prestigious Guitar Duo Competition of Montelimar (France) as well as the 21st International Guitar Duo Competition “Mauro Giuliani” (Italy). In 2001 they captured the Duo/Ensemble prize at the Chamber Music Competition of Leipzig (Germany) and the same year were the winners at the International Guitar Duo Competition of Paris (France). In 2003 they recorded their first CD after winning the recording prize Citta di Verona at the International Chamber Music Competition “Gaetano Zinetti” (Italy). In 2005 they successfully auditioned for the Yehudi Menuhin Society Live Music Now.

Duo Melis has collaborated with the Berliner Symphoniker, the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, the Radio Orchestra of Bucharest, and the National Orchestra of Thessaloniki conducted by Leo Brouwer. Their wide repertoire spans from the baroque music to the music of A. Piazzolla, A. Ginastera, Leo Brouwer, and also includes concertos for two guitars and orchestra by Rodrigo, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Vivaldi as well as the newly composed concerto of Marek Pasieczny dedicated to Duo Melis.

Recent appearances in North America include the Guitar Foundation of Americas Annual Convention, and recitals in Chicago, St. Louis, Austin, Scranton, College Station, Houston, Brownsville, and Detroit.
