Rick Doornbos

Project coordinator

Rick Doornbos (1996) is a guitarist from the north of the Netherlands. He started playing the guitar at the age of 9 and from the first moment it was clear to him that he didn’t want to do anything else. In those first years of guitar lessons he was already very creative and inventive – he would rather play his own compositions than the pieces he got from his teacher. Over the years that hasn’t changed much; he still likes to play his own compositions the most.

Rick started studying at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen with Sabrina Vlaskalic in 2016. He graduated his bachelor degree with cum laude in June 2020. He is currently studying Music Teaching and Master of Music simultaneously, both at the Prince Claus Conservatory. Besides Sabrina Vlaskalic, he also had lessons with Goran Krivokapic and currently he has lessons with Kristina Vårlid.

Rick has also participated in many masterclasses, among others with Leo Brouwer, Aniello Desiderio and Gabriel Bianco. Rick enjoys being busy with his creative approach of interpreting music. It’s important to him to tell his own story with the pieces he performs. As one might understand is that Rick fills his time composing a lot, he also loves to perform! During his concerts he programs a combination of compositions of others as well as his own compositions.
