During our glorious ‘Groningen Guitar Competition & Festival’, several concerts will be given by top musicians. Also this year with each a different composition they will bring you a fantastic musical evening. To start the week we have the Tomasi-Musso Duo, two very strong men from Italy, followed by a solo performance by the great Finn Otto Tolonen and finally the Bandini-Chiachiaretta Duo where classical guitar and bandeon come together: a real festive evening! And last but not least we have our guitar competition Grande Finale on the last day in which five different finalists will compete for the first place.

The Tomasi-Musso Guitar Duo was founded by the Italian guitarists Davide Giovanni Tomasi and Marco Musso in 2016. Despite their young age, they have already performed in three continents: from Japan to Mexico, from Russia to Taiwan, in North and South America, and all over Europe. They have been invited to play as soloists and as a duo in prestigious halls such as the Philharmonie Berlin, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Salle Pasteur – Le Corum in Montpellier, the International House of Music in Moscow, the Auditorium of Museo del Violino in Cremona, the Auditorium of Palazzo Pirelli in Milano, the Italian Institute of Culture in Tokyo, the Munetsugu Hall in Nagoya, the Conjunto Santander in Guadalajara. Otto Tolonen is one of the most versatile and active classical guitarists of his generation. He is an artist who is constantly looking for new repertoire and experimenting with new concert forms and techniques. His career took off when he won top prizes in 20 international guitar competitions between 1995 and 2009, among them the Andrés Segovia (Herradura, Spain), the Markneukirchen (Germany), the Tokyo International and the Guitar Foundation of America.
Tolonen is an active soloist and chamber musician and has performed across Europe, the Americas and Japan. He commands a wide range of musical styles. After a week of enjoying multiple concerts, masterclasses, a guitarEXPO and much more, it’s finally time for the Grande Finale. During the Groningen Guitar Competition & Finale, which takes place from 21 to 27 February, a maximum of five finalists have been brought together through two rounds of competition. These five finalists will each give a performance of maximum 30 minutes in which they can choose their own repertoire, so a very diverse programme!
After the playing rounds the winner of the Groningen Guitar Competition & Festival 2022 will be announced immediately, accompanied by a prize-giving ceremony! (read more…)
