Erik Stenstadvold is former professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo, where he was teaching for over forty years – among his many eminent students was Kristina Vårlid. He is a recognized guitar historian and expert on 19th century guitar music and performing practice, and has given lectures and masterclasses on such topics and written a large number of articles in various journals and books. His research has led to the rediscovery of several guitar compositions from that period, in particular the guitar duos by French composer Antoine de Lhoyer (1768–1852). These duos were published in three volumes by Chanterelle Edition in 2008. A major recent project has been a new complete edition, in 14 volumes, of Fernando Sor’s guitar works, published in 2021 by Guitar Heritage (now taken over by Schott). Stenstadvold has performed on the guitar and lute in Europe, North and South-America, and China. He has also recorded several CDs, mainly with music from the early 19th century.
