Schoorlemmer Guitars is based in the Netherlands, near de city of Deventer. In my small luthier-workshop I handcraft customized acoustic guitars. I built my firs guitar in 1994, based on old library books, and took it to a professional luthier. He offered me an apprenticeship in his workshop. I refused his offer. There was no way of combining it with my job in mental health care. My passion for the building of guitars stayed however. I kept studying and practicing to master the art of lutherie. Over the years I built all kinds of guitars, both classic and steel-string.
Nowadays I specialize in classic guitars and flamenco guitars. I build my guitars the traditional Spanish way, on a solera and using hide glue. I prefer to use shellac finish, applied by hand with a cotton rubbing pad. Creating a fine acoustic guitar is a work of passion and craftsmanship. Working with the finest timbers, I aim for the perfect sounding guitar. Well balanced and blooming through the hands and heart of the player. Each instrument has its own unique voice, based on the tonal qualities of the timbers and shaped in the building process.
Building a custom made instrument takes a journey in which player and builder discover how to create a perfect echo of musical artistry and luthier craftsmanship. The destination will be a fine instrument, unique and responsive; a Friend for Life.
